Abstract

This study evaluated the impact of stakeholder engagement on the success of women’s football field construction projects in Mandalay, Myanmar, focusing on three dimensions: effective communication, relationship building, and stakeholder support. A mixed-method design was employed with 200 respondents representing diverse stakeholder categories. Descriptive results revealed high mean scores for effective communication (M = 4.09), relationship building (M = 4.05), stakeholder support (M = 3.99), and project success (M = 4.21). Chi-square tests demonstrated statistically significant relationships between all engagement dimensions and eight project success indicators (p < .01), with Gender Equity Outcomes (χ² = 26.441), Usage and Participation (χ² = 22.188), and Infrastructure Quality (χ² = 19.554) showing the strongest associations. Correlation analysis confirmed strong positive relationships, with effective communication demonstrating the highest association (r = .720), followed by relationship building (r = .685) and stakeholder support (r = .642). Regression analysis revealed that stakeholder engagement explained 64.3% of project success variance (R² = 0.643), with effective communication as the strongest predictor (β = .558). Findings confirm stakeholder engagement as a determining factor for technical quality, community involvement, gender equality, operational efficiency, sustainability, and replicability in sports infrastructure development.

Key words: Stakeholder engagement, Effective communication, Relationship building, Project success, Sports infrastructure, Gender equity.
