Abstract

This study investigated the relationship between different dimensions of occupational burnout and demographic variables among white-collar employees working in the service sector. Data were collected using a 19-item scale developed based on the Copenhagen Burnout Inventory, which measures burnout across three dimensions: personal burnout, work-related burnout, and client-related burnout. The demographic variables examined included gender, marital status, age, education level, tenure in the current organization, and total work experience. The results indicated that marital status and organizational tenure were not significantly associated with occupational burnout. In contrast, significant differences were observed across several demographic variables. Burnout levels were found to be higher among women than men. In terms of age, burnout was highest in the 22–25 age group and lowest among employees aged 58 and above. Regarding education level, burnout was highest among individuals below the undergraduate level and lowest among those with postgraduate education. Additionally, burnout levels were highest among employees with 1–6 years of total work experience and lowest among those with less than one year of experience. Overall, the findings demonstrate that occupational burnout is largely associated with demographic characteristics, highlighting the importance of considering both burnout dimensions and demographic differences in professional interventions and future academic research aimed at reducing burnout.
