Abstract
Bangladesh, one of South Asia’s fastest-growing economies (ranked 35th globally by the IMF as of April 2025), possesses a significant demographic strength in its large and youthful population. This population is demonstrating a notable shift in consumption patterns, particularly towards green products. Driven by growing global and local concerns over food safety, this study investigates the factors motivating young Bangladeshi consumers to choose sustainable goods. In particular, it looks at the effects of information accessibility, peer pressure, and environmental consciousness. In order to help businesses and governments better understand young people’s decision-making and encourage green consumption, the study attempts to identify and rank the significance of these aspects. This study uses a structured questionnaire designed by reviewing recent research in this area and samples are selected based on non-probability sampling methods. The study was conducted on the undergraduate and graduate level students of a residential university of Bangladesh. In this work, the results are analyzed and a model is developed using the structural equation model. This study demonstrates the importance of subjective norms and perceived environmental responsibility in influencing green shopping decisions. In order to encourage students to make green purchases, this study recommends focusing on the elements associated with environmental responsibility and subjective norms.
