Evaluating Resident Satisfaction in Public Housing: Evidence from Asrayan Project-II

Abstract
The purpose of the study is to evaluate the resident’s satisfaction level in public housing project under Asrayan Project-II and identify the key socio-economic factors influencing their satisfaction. The study objectives were analyzed by using chi-square tests, relative importance index (RII) and multiple linear regression. Using a multistage random sampling technique, 379 respondents from Gopalganj, Munshiganj, and Narail were selected. Chi-square results show that age, family size, education, religion, and duration of residence significantly influence housing satisfaction, with most associations significant at the 5% level and several only at the 10% level, whereas income level shows no significant association. The relative importance index (RII) value shows the highest and lowest rank factor. The regression test shows that social environment and accessibilities factors significantly affect housing satisfaction rather than the physical structure of the housing, where the model captures 16.6 % of the variance in housing satisfaction. The results of this study can be used by the policymakers and housing authority to enhance the quality and effectiveness of the public housing of Asrayan Project II by giving greater emphasis on the factors with the lowest RII value.
