Abstract

This study examines the relationship between technological innovation and economic growth in Uganda, using Kikuubo Online as the case context. An exploratory documentary time-series design was adopted, drawing on nine annual observations covering the period 2016–2024. Secondary data on economic growth, employment rate, market reach and technological innovations were analysed using descriptive statistics, correlation analysis and multiple regression. The regression model was statistically significant overall, F(3,5) = 10.260, p = .014, and explained 86.0% of the observed variation in economic growth within the study period. Employment rate had a statistically significant positive coefficient, whereas market reach and technological innovation did not demonstrate statistically significant independent coefficients. Technological innovation and market reach were strongly correlated, suggesting that the two variables moved closely together during the period examined. However, the small number of observations, reliance on secondary data and high correlation between predictors require cautious interpretation. The findings provide exploratory evidence concerning the relationship between digital-platform development, employment, market reach and economic growth in Uganda. Further research using larger datasets and stronger causal designs is required to determine the specific economic contribution of Kikuubo Online and comparable digital platforms.

Key words: Technological Innovation, Economic Growth, E-commerce, Digital Platforms, Financial Inclusion, Uganda.
